Montessori Classroom News December 6, 2017

Advent in the Classroom
Advent is a season of waiting and preparing. We anticipate God's justice and peace happening on Earth as we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth at Christmas.  In the classroom, we have a theme, story and song for each week of the four weeks of Advent.

Week 1 (“hope”) we discuss how even as night comes earlier at this time of year, the light from the moon and stars reminds us that daylight will come again. We add a star to our window each day as we look forward to the birth of the “Light of the World.”

Prophets brought messages of hope to people who were worried and sad. The prophet Isaiah shared hope for a time when people would turn their weapons into gardening tools and walk in God’s paths of peace and love. (Isaiah 2)

Song of the Week:
We are Called to Act with Justice
(sign language we added in parentheses)
We are called to act with justice (sign: “share”)
We are called to love tenderly (sign: “love”)

We are called to serve one another, (sign: “help”)
To walk humbly with God. (sign: “walk”)

Happy St. Nicholas Day! Today we remember the real “St. Nick” – a 4th century priest fabled for his kindness and generosity.
We set out our shoes before rest time and awoke to find a treat in them!
