Advent in the Classroom
Week 3 (“joy”) In this week’s story, Mary says “yes” to
becoming the mother to God’s child, Jesus. She goes to visit her cousin
Elizabeth, who is expecting a child (John) in her old age. Mary’s song rejoices
that God lifts up the lowly, feeds the hungry, and shows great mercy. We sing a
simplified version of her song:
My heart is full of joy
Tune – The farmer in the Dell
My
heart is full of joy
My
heart is full of joy
God
looks on me with love
My
heart is full of joy
God
does great things for us
God
does great things for us;
God
looks on us with love
God
does great things for us.
Week 4 (“love”) On Wednesday we joined Mary and Joseph for
the last part of their long journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. We tried to
find a place for Mary and Joseph to stay, but no one had room for them. We
finally found a sheltered cove in the park for them to rest and welcomed baby
Jesus. We sang together and the children enjoyed taking turns holding our baby
Jesus doll.
Song: The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy
traditional carol from the West Indies
(you can find recordings online to sing with your child if it is new to you)
The Virgin Mary had a
baby boy (x3)
and they say that his
name was Jesus.
[Refrain:] [He come from
the glory,
he come from the glorious
kingdom.] x2
O
yes, believer! (x2)
He
come from the glory,
he
come from the glorious kingdom.
