We had a great first week of school and are
excited about the year ahead! Our goal for the first few weeks is for the
children to feel connected, comfortable, and confident in the classroom. The
children are learning the expectations, procedures, and culture of the class.
Taking the time to establish a strong learning environment in the first few
weeks allows us to focus on in-depth, individualized learning the rest of the
year.
Poem of the Week:
The Apple Tree
Way up high in the apple
tree
Two little apples smiled
at me.
I shook that tree as hard
as I could;
Down came the apples
Mmmm, they were good.
The more we get together,
together, together;
The more we get together
the happier we’ll be.
For your friends are my
friends
and my friends are your
friends
The more we get together
the happier we’ll be
(other verses – the more
we sing/play/work together…).
What is Montessori?
An active, hands-on approach
to learning – children learn by doing!!!
An approach that understands how children best learn and
develop, and deeply respects each
child as a unique, capable, intelligent individual.
Individualized lessons – teachers guide each child
through the curriculum at their own pace.
Montessori teaches academic skills as well as problem-solving
skills, confidence, responsibility and kindness
